Baltimore Ravens' Ray Rice Indicted by Grand Jury for Third Degree Assault

Running back Ray Rice of the Baltimore Ravens was indicted by a Grand Jury for third degree assault. If convicted the alleged woman beater could face up to five years in prison. Rice is accused of beating his fiancé into a concussion.

The Baltimore Ravens said this about the following about Ray's arrest:

"This is part of the due process for Ray. We know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident." (ESPN.com)

That statement annoys me and should annoy anyone who is against women being beaten by a man. I understand that the Ravens would wait to pass judgment on Rice before a jury reaches their decision but saying Ray is above this one indictment is sickening.

The Ravens are not any different than the other greedy teams who only care about money and not about decency, morality or lawful conduct by their players and employees.

If what Rice did is true and he beat up a woman, we're talking about an NFL player who is big and strong. There is no excuse for that type of behavior and I believe there should be no place for woman beaters in professional sports.

I don't care if it's his first brush with the law. It doesn't mean that he should be allowed to play in the NFL. That doesn't mean that if he's rehabilitated he shouldn't be able to earn a living. He should and as far as I'm concerned he can work at Taco Bell. That's not meant to be insulting to the fine establishment. It is meant to say that he should be able to work, just not in the NFL.

The NFL is violent by its very nature but I don't think that they need players who are so totally out of control that they beat up a woman. I believe that once a person is a woman beater they are always a woman beater. I don't believe that these creeps can turn their violence towards women on and off at will.

If I was his fiancé I wouldn't go near the guy. She shouldn't be a statistic. Whatever caused both these people to allegedly get in a fight, it is likely to happen again. The next time things might get worse than a concussion.

Ray Rice now makes me sick and I hope Baltimore Ravens fans feel the same way. Cheering for this guy if he's guilty of assaulting his fiancé would be disgusting. It would be supporting this type of behavior.

Before you accuse me of doing the same thing with my team's players, I would say that isn't true. When a Minnesota Vikings player is accused of these types of things like Chris Cook, I want my team to dump them. That is the right thing to do.

I believe that these violent men know that they can go out and beat a woman up and their team will support them. To support this vile behavior is disgusting and sickening. It makes me ill thinking that their are people who support this type of behavior.

If Rice is convicted I hope he does spend time in jail. Then the Ravens can dump the guy. I hope the Ravens are forced to sever ties with this guy.
