The Minnesota Vikings Blew a Chance to Beat Green Bay and Settle for the Tie

The Vikings were up 16 points with less than a quarter left to play and they found a way to blow the lead and go to OT. Matt Flynn came in to relieve Packer’s QB Scott Tolzien who had a poor game for the Packers. Flynn played well and gave the Packers a chance to win and earn the tie.

I hate to use the word earn when it comes to a tie. It's like you watched a meaningless game without a real outcome. There will be people who will say that Ponder had a good game. If you call not making any mistakes a good game then you have low standards for your team's franchise QB.

A tie is horrible. The Vikings didn’t win which sucks and the tie moves them to a lower draft pick at this point in the season. A tie is neither here or there. It’s a meaningless result.

When the Vikings needed a 1st down to clinch the game, Ponder was unable to pick up a first down. So the game went to OT as the Packers took advantage of the Vikings inability to close out a game. They drove the field for the game equalizing field goal.

Adrian Peterson (AP) was the offense for the Vikings today. He had his best game of the season rushing for 146 yards and one TD. AP was the Vikings offense. You can see when AP can run the ball, Ponder is a better QB.

The thing is that AP will not run the ball like that every game. There will be times when the responsibility to move the offense will be on the shoulders of Christian Ponder. I don't think he can handle that pressure. I don't think he can efficiently move a team down the field. When Ponder needed to make plays the most he couldn’t find a way to close this game out.

The Hail Mary isn't an option with Ponder at the helm. For Ponder to be effective the coaches have to have a game plan where he is a game manager. The have no confidence in Ponder. I don't have confidence in Ponder. He isn't a winner and he's not a good starting QB.

Before you think that I'm letting the Vikings defense off the hook, I'm not. When it counted in the 4th quarter the Vikings D couldn't close out the game either. The D is equally at fault (with the offense) for allowing this game to go to OT. The Vikings were a dominant team for about 48 minutes on Sunday.

12 minutes was all that Matt Flynn and the Green Bay Packers needed to make up 16 pints and send this game to OT. This is a pathetic tie game for the Vikings. I consider it a loss. It definitely was a lost opportunity to win at Lambeau Field.

Did Ponder do anything to change your mind in his abilities?

Yes, he should be the starter
