2013 NFL Picks - Week #9

Andy Dalton Signed 16x20 Photo - JSA WitnessIt was a tough week for picking and I only came out of the week winning 3 of my 5 picks. There were some exciting moments this past week. The most exciting moment for me was Detroit's game winning drive and specifically Stafford faking out the Dallas Cowboys (and his teammates) leading them to believe he was going to spike the ball. Stafford leaped into over the goal line for the game winning TD.

Then there was last night's goal line stand by the Seattle Seahawks that gave them the victory over the St. Louis Rams.

We'll have to see how week 9 pans out. Here's my attempt at predicting the results of some of the games.

Thursday Night Special - Cincinnati Bengals (6-2) at Miami Dolphins (3-4)
The Bengals are coming off another big win after demolishing the New York Jets. The Bengals are flying high right now and it doesn't look like they will let up any time soon.

The Dolphins are at the other end of the spectrum. They suffered another depressing loss on Sunday. This time it was to the New England Patriots. The Dolphins are a bad team and haven't shown me that they are ready to beat a good team.

Cincinnati wins 35-13.

Snoozer of the Week - Philadelphia Eagles (3-5) at Oakland Raiders (3-4)
This is a game that features two bad teams. The Raiders have more potential than the Eagles and do have the edge playing at home. This will be a boring game and offer very little in the way of entertainment.

Oakland wins 12-3.

Upset in the Making of the Week - Baltimore Ravens (3-4) at Cleveland Browns (3-5)
There really isn't a good reason to pick the Browns. They are a terrible football team but something tells me that they will win this home game.

Cleveland wins 9-6.

Wild Card of the Week - Atlanta Falcons (2-5) at Carolina Panthers (4-3)
On paper Carolina seems like a lock but Atlanta still has talented players and a QB who I think will rebound this week from a bad loss. This is a divisional rivalry and you never know what's going to happen when these two teams meet.

Something tells me that the Falcons will win.

Atlanta wins 31-24.

Lock of the Week - Minnesota Vikings (1-6) at Dallas Cowboys (4-4)
The team that pays the Jacksonville Jaguars would normally be the lock of the week. Since the Jaguars have the bye this week, I have to pick another team for the lock. Thankfully there is another terrible team or two in the league. The Vikings are this week's lock for being defeated.

What cures a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds of a game that you should have won? Playing the Minnesota Vikings will cure that heartbreak. The Cowboys will play the Vikings this Sunday and they will face one of the worst teams in the NFL

Tony Romo and Dez Bryant will feast on the worst defense in the NFL. Unlike previous opponents who forced the Vikings into submission with long drives, the Cowboys will destroy the Vikings with quick strikes, humiliating a defense that has been humiliated three weeks in a row.

The Cowboys don’t have to worry that the Vikings will counter strike. The Dallas Defense will face Christian Ponder or Josh Freeman. I think it will be Freeman. It doesn't matter which chump takes the field for the Vikings. Dallas will make them look like amateurs.

Dallas wins this game easily by a score of 49-6.

Monday Night Football - Chicago Bears (4-3) at Green Bay Packers (5-2)
It's too bad that this game against bitter rivals will be played without Jay Cutler. The Bears will have to play a great game on both sides of the ball.

Green Bay is coming off an easy win at Minnesota. The game was more like a practice than and NFL game for the Packers.

Green Bay will continue where they left off on Sunday night and clobber the Bears 35-17.

There you have it. Week 9's picks are ready to be tested. Have a great week and good luck to your team.

Season Picks Score: 18 Correct and 10 Incorrect.
