2013 NFL Picks - Week #5

I'm sitting down writing this article with a big smile on my face. The reason is that I went 6-6 in my week 4 picks. It was a fun week. We had some exciting games and then some duds. When the Jaguars and the Giants take the field we have duds.

I'm going to change things up a little bit. Instead of writing a novel for each pick, I'm going to attempt to get to the point and limit my hot air for each pick.

OK, now on to the picks.

Thursday Night Special - Buffalo Bills (2-2) at Cleveland Browns (2-2)
This game could have easily been our snoozer of the week but since both teams are playing on Thursday night they are automatically promoted to the Thursday Night Special.

This will be a close game. Cleveland has the fourth ranked defense in the NFL while Buffalo is at the bottom of the league in that category. On the offensive side of things, Cleveland is near the bottom and Buffalo is middle of the pack.

Home field advantage will be the difference in this game.

Cleveland wins 21-17.

Snoozer of the Week - Carolina Panthers (1-2) at Arizona Cardinals (2-2)
This will be a boring game with two sub-par teams taking the field. Both teams have been major disappointments and the only reason that Arizona is 2-2 is because they beat the hapless Tampa Bay Buccaneers (just barely) in Week 4.

Arizona wins 17-13.

Upset in the Making of the Week - New Orleans Saints (4-0) at Chicago Bears (3-1)
On paper the Bears aren't anywhere in the same league as the Saints but you can throw that paper out of the window this week.

I believe that the Saints are a different team on the road and stadiums that aren't domed. I also think that the Bears will want to rebound after a poor performance last Sunday. The Bears will be tough at home and Cutler will be on fire.

Chicago wins 28-20.

Wild Card of the Week - Baltimore Ravens (2-2) at Miami Dolphins (3-1)
There are a number of games that are too close to call this week but the most difficult for me is this one.

Both teams had tough weeks and Miami was made to look like a college team on Monday night. Drew Brees torched the Dolphins so called good defense and Ryan Tannehill showed us that he has a long way to go before we can say that he's a franchise QB.

Both teams want to rebound and the mediocre Flacco will want to prove that he's worth an obscene amount of money.

Miami wins this one 24-20.

Lock of the Week - Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4) at St. Louis Rams (1-3)
The Rams are lucky to be facing the worst team in the NFL. For me the lock of the week is any team that plays the Jaguars.

The Jaguars QB situation is atrocious and comical. Until the Jaguars show me that they can be competitive in a game their opponents will be chosen as the lock of the week.

St. Louis wins 35-6.

Monday Night Football - New York Jets (2-2) at Atlanta Falcons (1-3)
The Falcons are lucky to be at home against the Jets. The Jets started the season off against a few mediocre teams (except for the Patriots) but found out how pathetic they really are against a good team.

Atlanta's record isn't reflective of how good they are. They've played some of the NFL's best teams in the first four weeks. They've also a number of key injuries.

If Geno Smith had a hard time last week, he is going to feel like he's the baseball at batting practice.

Atlanta wins 38-13.

So there are my picks. This has the makings of a tough week with some upsets. I hope that my prognosticating skills are as good as week 4's.

Season Picks Score: 9 Correct and 3 Incorrect.
