The Manti Te'o Girlfriend Hoax Story Is Like The Energizer Bunny. It Keeps On Going And Going And Going

Article written by Sportmentary - Editor in Chief Sportmentary Online Sports Talk
The Manti Te'o story is just two days old and it has something in common with the Energizer Bunny. It keeps on going and going and going. One of the reasons the story will keep on going is that it keeps on giving bloggers like me tons to write about. This is my third story on the hoax and I can't get enough of it.

Manti Te'o Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Photo Reprint 8x10The story has had twists and turns but one thing has remained constant. The story is unbelievable. There are more questions than answers at this point. Another thing that is happening as the facts roll in is that Manti's story has many holes in it.

We now know that at the very least Manti "perpetuated" the hoax. Instead of putting this to rest when he claims he first learned of the hoax he continued on with it. That leads many people not to trust the guy. I have my doubts in Manti being a victim but I will wait until more facts become available until I lay judgment on him.

If Manti had any involvement in the hoax the best thing he could have done is to admit to it. He still has a chance to do that. The facts will come out. If Manti had a hand in it, he should come clean now. The story will not stop and the media will not stop writing about it. Readers will not stop craving more of this story either.

Unless he's biding his time for an eventual interview with Oprah, the best thing Te'o can do now is tell his side of the story and tell the truth. If he doesn't and he's caught in a web of lies and deceit he will do irreparable harm to his career.

As I said before the truth will surface and those involved in this ugly hoax will be delivered to the public on a silver platter. It won't take long for the truth to be unveiled. When it does and if there's any involvement by Manti, the story will get even bigger.

Notre Dame's athletic director Jack Swarbrick must really trust Manti. Hopefully for his sake he has information that we don't about and he knows what really went down. If he doesn't and Manti's story has more irregularities his credibility will be called into question.

I sure hope that Manti isn't throwing Swarbrick under the bus. That would make many folks at Notre Dame and those associated with the University very angry. It would also seal the fate of Manti's career.

This story continues to blossom and it isn't going away. Manti should speak soon and tell the media everything he knows about the hoax. If and I say if he's involved he must come clean now. He will face a backlash and his draft stock will take a hit but he will be able to work through it.

I know I'm sounding like I am judging him already. I'm not. I think there are some discrepancies with his story but I'm still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't have proof that he was the mastermind of this hoax. I don't have proof that he was a co-conspirator to the hoax plot. Yes I have my doubts that he's a victim but I will wait a little bit longer for the dust to start settling before I lay judgment.
