Manti Te'o Caught Up in Fake Girlfriend Hoax

Article written by Sportmentary - Editor in Chief Sportmentary Online Sports Talk

We heard the story. Manti Te'o not playing for his recently deceased grandmother but also for his girlfriend's apparent death from Leukemia. Manti received an outpouring of support and love from across the nation. Manti played for his loved ones. This story turned out to be a hoax. It's the weirdest story in recent memory.

The supposed girlfriend of Manti who we thought went by the name Lennay Kekua never existed and is a fictitious name. In fact Deadspin is reporting that not only does that person not exist but there is no death certificate for that person.

Manti Te'o Signed Autographed 8x10 Photo ReprintQuestions now are being asked. Who perpetrated this hoax? Who would do this? Was Manti involved? Only a sick ad sordid person would be part of this cruel joke. You would have to be a monster or suffer from insanity to lead someone to believe you were their girlfriend and then somehow lead the person to believe that you had died from leukemia. You would need accomplices.

Deadspin named a source who believes Manti was involved and perpetrated the hoax for publicity. I sure hope that isn't true. Mant's career would come to a crashing halt. He would be done. You could then stick a fork in his career.

If Manti is involved in any way he will suffer a backlash worse than Lance Armstrong, if that's possible. There's a lot that doesn't add up for me. Manti now claims he met this fictitious person online and then struck an "emotional relationship" with her.

Who is this woman? Did any woman actually exist? I would think this case would be easy to crack even for Inspector Gadget. You could check Manti's computer to see if any relationship even existed. For me this is weird. I'd like to believe Manti had nothing to do with it.

I know people get caught up in weird things online and it is possible that happened to Manti but to be honest I have more questions than answers regarding if Manti was involved in this cruel and disgusting hoax. I would like to think that Manti is smart enough not to sabotage his career. Then again, if he was part of this weird hoax it would show he wasn't very smart.

The media and police always seem to find out the truth. I will be following this story closely. I want to see how this plays out. While it's interesting I find it incredibly suspicious and out of this world as far as reality is concerned.
