Andy To The Chiefs? The Cardinals Must Be A Real Mess

Article written by Sportmentary - Editor in Chief
Reports are surfacing that Andy Reid is on the "verge" of becoming the Kansas City Chiefs new head coach. Reports yesterday placed him with the Cardinals. This shows how fast things can change for a sought after head coach. Both the Kansas City Chiefs and Arizona Cardinals are in desperate need of a turnaround and Reid would give both these teams some hope for their future.

If Reid goes to the Chiefs it shows me that even Andy feels that the Cardinals are in such a mess that he doesn't even want to take a chance on them. The Cardinals are perennial losers. They have been the laughing stock of the NFL for most of their putrid existence.

I think Andy Reid thought long and hard after talks went well with the Chiefs yesterday and probably felt that it would take a savior to turn Arizona into a winner. Even though the Chiefs were atrocious this past season, the team does have the history and structure in place to become a winner again. Andy will be that guy to help guide them back to the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how this really plays out. Yesterday, reports indicated that it was a 95% certainty that Reid would take the Cardinals job. The only thing that is 95% certain is that the Arizona Cardinals are big losers. This is a team that loses more than they win. Sure they've been to the Super Bowl but look at the rest of their sorry history and you will find a team more suited for the circus than a football field.

When I first read that Reid was likely to become the Cardinals head coach I thought to myself why would an accomplished coach take that job? The job is for losers, coaches who are desperate to be a head coach or a rookie coach looking for a break. It's not the job for a coach that has been a winner for most of his career.

In all seriousness, I do think it comes down to control. Andy Reid is sure to bring in his own coaching staff that he can have control over and that is his. Arizona has a decent defensive coordinator and defensive coaches. It would be a big upheaval for Reid to let those guys go and bring in his own staff.

That wouldn't be as big an issue in Kansas City. Reid will be free to bring in the coaches that he wants. It would be fresh start for Reid and the Chiefs. If I was a Chiefs fan today, I would be very excited about the prospect of Andy Reid becoming the head coach of my team.
