He Said He Said - My Weekly NHL Rant

He said we were very close to a deal. The other he said he didn't know what he was talking about. He said that we really were close to a deal. We really were. He is Donald Fehr and the other he is Gary Bettman. I'm not sure who is telling the truth but both these guys had differing reactions to the negotiations that crash and burned last week.

Now we're hearing that the talks may resume soon. While that may be good news to some I don't really care. They should talk but they should keep quiet until they have an agreement or the season is cancelled. This up and down, we're close; we're not really close nonsense is ridiculous and unfair to NHL fans.

This lockout has played out like a really bad marriage and a really bad soap opera. The negotiations have been a disaster. I think that these guys need counseling. Both sides have failed miserably. A deal should have been inked by now. The players should be on the ice doing what they know best and that's playing hockey. It's not sending a group of overpaid misfits into a negotiation room.

Donald Fehr and Gary Bettman are supposed to be labor negotiation experts but my guess is those people who are experts and have been part of labor disputes and negotiating settlements to those disputes must think that these guys are inept. They must think that these guys are incompetent.

While Donald says that the sides were close to a deal and Gary says that wasn't true, the NHL and NHLPA are close to losing another season. They are fighting for money but the amount that they are going to lose will be more than what they are fighting for now. It doesn't make sense to me. This mess doesn't make sense to me. Destroying their product doesn't make sense to me.

Somewhere in their pea sized brains it makes sense to them. Somehow the damage that they have caused to this league makes sense to them. Somehow their greed and destructive behavior makes sense to them. I just don't think like they do. I can't comprehend why they would willingly sabotage the game.

I love this game. I love the NHL. It angers me that these men would willingly destroy it. I wish that they would just leave. I wish they would take their garbage somewhere else. I wish they would go and ruin a different league. Shame on them for the damage that they have caused to the NHL.

There you have it. My weekly NHL rant is now over. Who am I kidding? I rant more than just once a week about the NHL.
