Timberwolves Off to a Good Start

The Timberwolves got off to a very good start in their first NBA game tonight against Sacramento. The Timberwolves had to dig deep in the 4th quarter as Sacramento made a push but Minnesota was too strong.

What made this game particularly impressive is that the Timbersolves were without two of their star players. Team leader Kevin Love is out with a hand injury and Ricky Rubio is also out with a torn ACL and lateral collateral ligament injury. Rubio isn't expected to return anytime soon.

This is a good sign for the Timberwolves. The fact that they lead from start to finish and held on when the Kings made a move is promising. It's also promising that Minnesota can win without their two big stars. If the Timberwolves can stay the course until Love returns, this team can be a real contender this year.

I won't hold my breath but it would be exciting for Minnesota sports fans to have something to cheer about. Timberwolves point guard, Jose Juan Barea led all scorers with 21 points. Burea came off the bench to lead the squad. Burea also had 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal to along with his 21 points.

I expect to see more of Brandon Roy now that Love is injured. Roy ended up with only 10 points in 30 minutes of play  He did have 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Roy will have to step up his efforts if he wants to prove he deserves to be s starter. So far, I'm not impressed.

It's possible that Love might be out the whole month of November. Let's hope not but that is a possibility. That's 15 games. It's really important for the rest of the team to do their part and win some games during this stretch. Even if the Timberwolves win half of those games, it will be a pretty good accomplishment, considering their top player is out of the lineup.

Tonight provided Timberwolves fans with some hope that this team is ready to compete night after night. This community has been without a playoff team for a long time now and they deserve to be excited about the possibility that this team is ready to change that trend.

I'm very hopeful that this will be an exciting year. Yes it does suck that Love is out. It does suck that Rubio is injured but Love will return to the lineup and be with the team for most of the year. So there is real promise with this team.

Go Timberwolves!
