As Injuries Pile Up, Timberwolves Keep Winning

Injuries keep piling up for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Over the weekend it was budding star and Brandon fill-in, Chase Budinger. Budinger was doing an excellent job coming off the bench and also starting in place of the injured Roy. Today, game scoring leader Nikola Pekovic left the game with an injury and 20 points.

These injuries are in addition to big name injuries of Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. For most teams these two injuries would be enough to greatly hurt the team (no pun intended) but it hasn't. Then you add Budinger and now Nikola and the team is really thin in their lineup. This hasn't stopped the Timberwolves from compiling a 5-2 record, which is good enough for second place in the Northwest.

Let's hope that Pekovic's sprained ankle heals quickly and that he can make a speedy return. I also hope that Brandon Roy returns soon. The Timberwolves need someone to return. They've played amazingly well despite their injuries. I have tons of respect for this squad and the resolve they are showing.

Besides Pekovic, two other starters had good games. Andrei Kirilenko had 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's a great game for Andrei. Luke Ridnour also had a great game for the Wolves. Ridnour had 15 points, 4 steals, and 8 rebounds. It was a great game from the starters.

I haven't mentioned this yet but tons of credit needs to be given to Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman. The job he's done preparing this club has been great. He's the real deal. I can't wait to see what he can do with a healthy lineup.

Once again the team's bench played a huge role. Two players stand out. Mr reliable, Alex Shved had 16 points and 5 assists. Alex has played a major role in the team going 5-2. Dante Cunnignham was the other bench player to have a good game. He finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Timberwolves fans have to be excited with what they're seeing (minus the injuries). The team has players who are stepping up to do their part in helping this team. I am concerned that the team suffered another injury. As mentioned above, the bench is thinning out. They can't afford anything else to go wrong on the injury front.

  1. Unbelievable -- another injury - again to a key player. Still they managed to pull out a victory, Pek played exceptional, M. Lee gave it his all, Shved and AK had monster games, Luke, Dante, Lou, Greg, all played well, D-will struggled and Conroy doesn't have much game to contribute but still another victory. Hopefully we will have some help from JJ and Brandon soon -- That is going to be essential if we are to keep AK, Luke and Shved from wearing down. Still it likely 2 plus weeks without Pek, another 4 without Lve, another 6 without Rubio, and another 8 without Chase. There are 20 games more until the first of January - 5-2 now, if we can go 6-14 we would be 5 games under .500 with 45 games remaining. 25-20 would give us a 500 season, and if everyone stayed healthy (and Roy is able to contribute) it is possible that we could go 30-15 in 2013 and finish 5 games over 500. Difficult but possible. Just hope no one else gets hurt, and people start getting healthy again.

  2. Crazy stuff. Let's hope that no one else gets injured.

  3. Budinger's going to be out for 3-4 months. Ughhh!
