A Win is a Win is a Win

A win is a win is a win. No matter how you slice it and dice it, the Vikings are 5-2 courtesy of their 21-14 victory over the hapless Arizona Cardinals. The Vikings won the game due to a good defensive effort that saw the Vikings forcing 2 turnovers (1 INT and a Fumble Recovery).

Adrian Peterson Autographed 11x14 PhotoThe defense did allow Arizona QB John Skelton to throw for 262 yards but the QB did throw one INT and lost a fumble. Those were key plays and really hurt Arizona. The Vikings also sacked Skelton 6 times. A lot of the credit has to go to the Defense. The offense did little to score any points past the first minute of the 3rd quarter. The defense kept the Vikings in the game and didn't allow Arizona to sneak away with a miracle comeback

That's unacceptable. Christian Ponder took a huge step backwards today. He threw 2 terrible INTs. Both INTs came while he tried to throw across his body. The kid needs to learn that he can't do that. It's unacceptable. The secons INT came with less than 15 seconds to play and deep in the Vikings end of the field. It set up an Arizona Field Goal attempt. Luckily for the Vikings, the Field Goal wasn't good.

Bill Musgrove, the Vikings OC, needs to take a lot of the blame for that second INT. With 15 seconds remaining and Adrian Peterson playing well, why not just go for a run and run out the clock? What was the need to go for a passing play and  risking a disaster? That was bush league play calling on Musgrove's part. I haven't been impressed with him this year.

After that, Ponder was ineffective. It was a terrible game for Ponder. He only passed for 58 yards. That's unacceptable. The Vikings were lucky to win, even with the atrocious playing of Ponder. He needs to limit his mistakes. It looked like he had improved greatly in the first few games but in the past 2 games, he's thrown interceptions and hasn't protected the ball well at all. He's taken a few steps backwards and needs to go back to the drawing board.

The best player on the field today was Adrian Peterson (AP). Peterson was the difference maker on offense. If it wasn't for AP, he Vikings could have found themselves on the losing side. AP had 153 yards rushing and 1 TD. Way to go AP.

The team needs to make some improvements with Ponder and the defense. While the defense caused 2 turnovers, they need to be more consistent. Skelton was able to move the ball on them. The pass defense wasn't very good at all.

All in all, I'll take this victory. A win is win is a win. 5-2 is an excellent start for the team.

Player of the Game: Adrian Peterson.
