Should Michael Vick Be Smarter With the Football?

Michael Vick was hurt again on Monday night, trying to do too much and not being smarter with the football. In typical Vick style, he eluded tacklers and instead of getting rid of the ball or protecting it, he danced around and then flung the ball down field. Not only was he hurt on the play but he could have thrown an interception. Should Michael Vick be smarter with the football?

Michael Vick Autographed Picture - 8x10I think it's a no brainer to say yes. When he faces pressure, his instincts tell him to run and allude tacklers. That isn't such a bad thing in normal circumstances but with Vick, he holds on to the ball for too long, trying to make a miraculous play out of nothing. That opens him up to injury or to turning over the ball.

I think Vick needs to learn when to play smarter and take the safe play, like getting rid of the ball safely. He needs to learn how to avoid being inured. The Philadelphia Eagles can't afford to have him injured and neither can he. Vick has vowed to stay injury fee on 2012.

I don't see any signs of that happening. We were early into a meaningless 2nd preseason game and he was hurt almost from the start. In another play, Vick slided head first. That could have caused serious injury. It was a dumb play and makes me question his football IQ. It seems as if Vick is gambling with his long-term contract.

Vick's contract is potentially worth 100 million dollars and guarantees him 40 million greenbacks. That's if he lasts the full term of the contract. At the rate he's going to be real life bobble head. He won't know if he's coming or going. He won't know if his head is going from side to side or up and down.

Andy Reid needs to sit Vick him down and have a serious talk with him. He needs to let him know that the eagles can't take mmuch more of his antics. Vick needs to play smarter football. It was a huge financial commitment for the Eagles. One I thought was ridiculous.

Why would the Eagles pay a player, a year removed form being in jail an one who is injury prone, 40 million dollars in guarantees? He had only had one good year before that. It's looking more like the Vick investment was a terrible one.

Vick needs to prove to his team and Eagles fans that the team wasn't wrong giving him that ridiculous contract. He needs to start acting like a professionl quarterback and he needs to be much smarter with the football. Both for his sake and his temmates sake. The jury is still out on Vick but I think Vick is a walking injury case.

I don't think he'll last the whole season without being injured. Some players are just prone to getting boo boos. Michael Vick is one of them.
