Best NHL Uniforms

Sportmentary has been reading a number of "Best Sports Logos" listings recently. I haven't agreed with any of them. One of the biggest sports sites (ESPN) has published their version and rated the Montreal Canadians as the best uniform in sports. They even rated the Cleveland Indians as the 59th overall uniform. I disagree with this assessment. Both uniforms get an F in my opinion.

Why would I give those teams logos an F? While they are classic designs and their teams have rich history (Well at least the Canadians do), they are old school. I like a modern design. I decided to release my favorite NHL uniforms. My list is biased but it's one man's opinion.

#5 Vancouver Canucks - For me the color scheme is good and represents the Ocean hugging city of Vancouver. What I really love is the logo. More specifically the Orca (Killer Whale) transposed over the C. The log and uniform colors represent the city well. I think the uniform as a whole is one that displays strength. If only the Canucks could represent their logo as well as the logo represents the city.

#4 Carolina Hurricanes - I like the color scheme. The logo is OK. If I critique the log by its individual parts, they don't add up to a great logo but as a whole, I like it.

#3 Minnesota Wild - OK, the colors could be better but the colors definitely represent Minnesota and the hunting mad state. It seems as if everyone is a hunter in the state of hockey. The dark green color, definitely gives the uniform a wild and rugged look. So does the logo itself.

#2 Phoenix Coyotes - It pains me to say it. I hate the team and hope they move to a Canadian city soon but I think the Coyotes have the second best uni in the NHL. I love the logo of the Coyote. It gives the uni a modern look. I love the howl of the Coyote. Maybe it reminds me of the Looney Tunes character, the Wile E. Coyote. I love Looney Tunes. I actually think the Coyotes have as much luck as Wile E. Coyote.

#1 Winnipeg Jets - Yes, I'm a homer and biased. I love the Air Force Jet overlooking the Maple Leaf. The logo is classy, modern and also pays homage to Royal Canadian Air Force, more specifically, Winnipeg's 17 Wing.

If the guy whoever wrote the list on that big site is listening, yes more than one Canadian city can use the Maple Leaf in their team's uniform design. You should do your research and keep your idiotic comments to yourself.

There you have it. A pretty biased list and one that places my Winnipeg Jets at the top of the list. Maybe it's my way of venting. Maybe it's my way of getting back at the other list and it's bogus choices.
