The Minnesota Sports Scene is Going From Bad to Putrid

The sports scene in Minnesota has gone from bad to putrid in a matter of weeks. I've written before that Minnesota's team sports scene should be called Losersota. It's not funny being a fan of sports teams in this state.

It's so bad here in the state of lakes that we get happy when our WNBA team , the Minnesota Lynx wins a championship or the fact that Minnesota skier Lindsey Vonn is on the cusp of winning the World Championship. I'm not taking away anything from the accomplishments of these two but it's the men's team sports that dominate the state.

There might be some light at the end of the tunnel for perennial losers, the Minnesota Timberwolves who are fighting for a playoff spot. The probability is that the team will fall just short and confirm what we all know; Being a fan in Minnesota sucks.

The Minnesota Wild of the NHL blew a tire back in December and never recovered. Once at the top of the NHL points standings, the Wild are in the bottom three of their conference. At least they will get a good draft pick.

The Minnesota Vikings, soon to be playing in Los Angeles, due to the fact that this state's legislators are morons and can't figure out a way to help finance a stadium means that they are a bunch of losers. This team's management is inept and they couldn't run a peewee team.

Heading into this week's WCHA Final Five tournament (actually played by six teams - Who's counting?), the Minnesota Gophers, ranked number one in the WCHA were the odds on favorite to win the tournament. That's before visiting University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, spotted the egomaniacs three goals, only to win the semi final game 6-3.

This sent Gophers hockey fans home in a tizzy. The scene these days is one of doom and gloom, especially here in the Twin Cities. The metro area has nothing to brag about when it comes to its sports teams. All is not bad I guess. Last week provided the state with some excitement and joy. The state hockey tournament took place and it's quite the event. One thing was certain last weekend; A Minnesota sports team was going to win. FINALLY.

While it might seem like I'm poking fun at my state, the reality is that I'm actually venting. If I didn't laugh about it, I might be found in the fetal position, licking my thumb.
