Vikings are a Very Good first Half Team

The first two games of the 2011 campaign have shown us that the Minnesota Vikings are a really good first half team.  That's about it.  They are also the worst second half team in my opinion.  Last week the Vikings blew a 17-7 first half lead to the San Diego Chargers.  This week they blew a 17-0 half time lead to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They lost to Tampa Bay 24-20.

This week's loss hurts more.  The Vikings were dominant on both sides of the ball in the first half but in the second, the defense tanked and the offense couldn't put sustained drives together.  The problem with the offense not scoring more than 3 points in the second half is that it kept their putrid defense on the field.

I went into the second half telling my wife that the Vikings need to score 10 pints to win this game.  I knew that Tampa Bay would make adjustments on offense and defense.  They made enough adjustments to dominate Minnesota in the second half.   They made Minnesota look like amateurs.

The last two halves have proven to me that the Vikings are an awful team.  It's unacceptable to blow two half time leads when you're winning by definitive margins, especially this week.  This week's game was at home.  You just can't blow a 17 point lead at home.  The defense which has been a strong pint for this team the past few seasons (accept for last year) has to do better.

I sure hope that the team didn't try to coast to victory.  17 points isn't enough to do that and it's extremely difficult to turn it up when you need to.  The unfortunate thing about this game is that the Vikings gave up 14 points int he last 9 minutes of this game.

I entered this season expecting the Vikings to go 6-10 this but now I think this team will be lucky to win 4 games.  They play the 2-0 Detroit Lions at home next week and that scares me.  Game 3 becomes a must win game and I'm not sure Minnesota can turn this thin around.
