What are the Eagles smoking?

What are the Philadelphia Eagles smoking?  They seem to have gone bananas.  ESPN.com is reporting that the eagles have signed Michael Vick to a 6 year, 100 million dollar contract with 40 million guaranteed.

That's one of the dumbest moves by a team in recent memory.  Michael Vick is just 2 seasons removed from spending time in jail for dog fighting related charges.  While the Eagles gave Vick a chance and he's so far been a good little guy, he hasn't proven he's worthy of one of the most lucrative contracts in the NFL.

Vick had a good year last year, especially early on.  His accuracy did decline towards the end of the year and I just don't believe that Vick has a sufficient resume to back this contract up.  He has 1 year as a starter in about 4 seasons.

Moves like this that make you shake your head at NFL executives.  I feel they're throwing money away like it grows on trees.  We're talking at least 40 million dollars.  This is crazy.
What happens to the eagles if Vick injures himself or starts-up another dogfighting ring?  What happens if Vick fails to live up to last year's magic?  The team would be up the creek without a paddle.

For this contract to make sense, Vick will need to win a championship. Vick will make an average of $16.67 million a year.  Tom Brady a three time champion and proven quarterback recently signed a 4 year extension at roughly 18 million a year, with 48 million guaranteed (Huff Post).
Vick will earn nearly as much as the best quarterback in the game and one of the most successful in the past decade.

This is a fiasco.  The Eagles should be ashamed of themselves. This is the type of contract that drives-up player salaries.  Isn't this the type of things the owners were claiming they were trying to avoid?
